Getat Practices (Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practices)
Hijama (Cup Application)

Cupping therapy continued to be practiced by both western medicine physicians and traditional medicine physicians. In Turkey, this is called "cup treatment" or "hijama".

Cupping therapy is an ancient medical technique that relies on creating a local skin vacuum to collect blood and then a second vacuum with superficial skin incisions to draw a small amount of blood from the skin. There is no correlation between the amount of blood drawn and clinical benefit. Academic interest in cupping therapy has grown rapidly in recent years, and there is growing evidence that cupping can be effective in a number of conditions. The effects of cupping therapy that researchers are particularly interested in; are painful conditions such as migraine, rheumatism, fibromyalgia, arthritis and back pain (Cao et al. 2012). In addition, there is increasing clinical data regarding the benefits of cupping therapy in male and female endocrine diseases such as Type 2 diabetes and infertility (Rajput 2015).
